Gretchen Jaspering has resigned as president of GSCA effective March 31, 2010, to pursue other opportunities. She had held the position since 2004. Gretchen states that it has been her pleasure working with so many of you these past five years. Seeing the world through your films and in your theaters has been a great experience for her. Lynnwood, Washington’s Aldrewood Mall has opened their digital IMAX theater. HeraldNet reports:
Imax has arrived in Snohomish County.
The AMC Loews theater at Alderwood Mall is now home to one of the largest screens in the region, thanks to a newly remodeled auditorium and a new screen that can display movies digitally remastered for Imax’s bigger and brighter sights and sounds.
Regal Thornton Place Stadium 14 at Northgate Mall in Seattle was the closest Imax screen in the area until “How to Train Your Dragon” opened last weekend at the Lynnwood multiplex.

A minor Twit-pocalypse broke out yesterday when LeVar Burton accidentally posted his phone number to his account. It sounds like he had to get his number changed thanks to all of the incoming calls, but luckily for him, his old “Star Trek: The Next Generation” co-stars Wil Wheaton and Brent Spiner were around to lend moral support.
Judging from the Twitter-Wood feed, everyone who wasn’t calling LeVar was at the Hollywood Bowl to see Paul McCartney, and a few posted pictures from the event. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is pretty great. Really. I’ve never been much of a wrestling fan, but I’ve definitely enjoyed his work as an actor. “The Rundown” and “Walking Tall” are both pure entertainment. And his presence in both “Be Cool” and “Southland Tales” elevated those two relative disasters. He’s been in a couple movies since those which I haven’t seen, but I’m really looking forward to his next one, “Faster,” featuring an ensemble cast that includes Billy Bob Thornton, Carla Gugino, Moon Bloodgood, Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Maggie Grace.
Johnson told MTV’s Larry Carroll at ShoWest recently that there’s one other notable name in the cast, someone who hasn’t come up yet in previous announcements: “Dexter” star Jennifer Carpenter. “['Faster' is] like a mix between ‘The Good, the Bad & the Ugly’ [and] ‘Bullitt.’ It has an old-school texture to it where no one has names. There’s the Driver, the Killer, the Cop, the Evangelist, the Woman,” he said. Larry asked, is “The Woman” Gugino? “She’s actually a cop too,” Johnson replied. “Jennifer Carpenter.” Neat!
In the movie, Johnson plays an ex-convict who is out for revenge after he and his brother are double-crossed during a heist. Johnson’s “Driver” ends up in jail and his brother… six feet under. From the sound of things, much ass will be kicked and many names will be taken.
Johnson is excited about the role, but he’s also excited to simply be a part of such a cool idea. “This is where I give a lot of credit to the writers,” he said. “It’s one of those scripts that had gone throughout Hollywood, one of those hot commodities that had gone throughout Hollywood.”
Larry also asked the actor about his character’s name, Driver. Another notable action hero has a similar moniker– Jason Statham’s Transporter. So how would a race between the two to deliver an important package pan out?
“[Statham] would be the better driver because that’s what he does. In my case, I’m not a driver. That’s what the name of my character is [and] I’m pretty good and proficient with cars, but not like the Transporter,” Johnson explained. He’s not going to concede defeat so easily though.
“Once we get to the destination,” he continued, “who would kick who’s ass? That would be me. Kicking his ass. He’d better watch out.”
“He’s my buddy,” Johnson said, turning to address Statham directly, with the camera acting as a proxy, “and you’d better watch out.”
