Twitter-Wood had work tweets galore today, with Betty White showing up to the “Community” set, Milla Jovovich coming into contact with a prisoner and Tyrese Gibson hanging out with his crew for “Fast and the Furious 5.” Meanwhile, ” Eclipse ” actress Tinsel Korey may not actually be working with Eminem yet, but she would like to make that happen. I’m just going to say up front how deeply disappointed I am that SyFy won’t be airing the second half of “Caprica”’s first season until January 2011 . Not cool. Fans of “Battlestar Galactica” are certainly used to such long mid-season breaks, but that doesn’t make them any more welcome. That said, there’s a new trailer online for season 1.5 and it’s quite good. Lots of action, seemingly more than we saw in the first half of the season. Not that either is necessarily bad, but it’s good to know that there’s going to be forward development on the Graystone/Cylon front. That is, after all, a key component in what ties this show to Ron Moore and David Eick’s excellent

Len Wiseman In Final Negotiations To Direct ‘Total Recall’

Here’s some news that’s hot off the press release. Len Wiseman , who you may remember as the director of “Live Free or Die Hard” and the first two “Underworld” movies, is in final negotiations to direct a remake/adaptation of “Total Recall.” The 1990 classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger remains one of the more entertaining cult sci-fi hits of the ’90s. The older movie and this upcoming one are both based on the Philip K. Dick short story, “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale.” Columbia Pictures president Matt Tolmach said that Wiseman will “bring a contemporary feel to the film” while sticking to the core of Dick’s story. “Salt” scribe Kurt Wimmer is still handling the script, as was announced last summer . For Wiseman’s part, he said that he looks forward to “diving even deeper into the type of world [the short story] evokes and the questions it asks. ‘Superbad’ Sequel ‘Never’ Happening, ‘Pineapple Express’ Sequel Hopes Dim Too… And That’s Okay

Sad news today for fans of wacky Judd Apatow -produced comedies. Or maybe not. Let’s go through the news, then you can decide for yourselves. The Playlist spoke with Evan Goldberg at San Diego Comic-Con last week. Goldberg is of course the wiz who wrote both “Superbad” and “Pineapple Express.” Sequel rumors and talk have followed both of those projects, so The Playlist asked him straight out: what’s the deal here? On the “Superbad” front, he gave what is perhaps the most definitive answer yet on the status/presumed status of a sequel: “Never, at any juncture in the history of life, have we considered ‘Superbad 2.’” Really not much to say to that, eh? Prospects for a “Pineapple Express” sequel sound better. According to Goldberg, he and his cohorts have pressured the studio to do it “but they require no pressure.” Meaning they want to do it. Problem is, everyone’s all booked up! “We kind of made the classic mistake of people who had a successful film: we then booked everything we could because we thought it’d be our only chance,” he explained. “It still could be our only chance, but man are we booked.” Now I know some of your are going to be bummed out by this news… but maybe it’s not such a bad thing. ‘Alien’ Prequel Getting A Rewrite From ‘Lost’ Showrunner Damon Lindelof… Or Maybe Not

You know that ” Alien ” prequel that Ridley Scott intends to direct? Well if it’s possible, things just got even more interesting on that front. Deadline reported late yesterday that ” Lost ” writer and showrunner Damon Lindelof met with Scott and Fox execs about giving the script a rewrite. Lindelof, who considers the seminal sci-fi work one of his great inspirations, jumped at the opportunity. Sending certain members of the ” Star Trek ” fan community into a rage, as Lindelof is presumably busy right now working with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman on the “Trek” sequel. That’s not all. In an interesting twist, Lindelof’s meeting with Fox yielded some ideas that may spin off into their own “free standing science fiction film.” Whether that would be in addition to the “Alien” rewrite or instead isn’t entirely clear. But it’s a big development for a project that people were already watching very closely; Scott and Lindelof together though? That’s about as unlikely — and awesome — a pairing as Guillermo del Toro and James Cameron !

Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has been trying to make an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s celebrated novella “At the Mountains of Madness” happen for some years now. We learned late yesterday that it’s finally going to happen , in 3-D and with James Cameron producing no less. The Internet is in danger of collapsing beneath the weight of the Awesome in that sentence. As great as the Cameron/3-D bits are, for me the excitement begins and ends with the pairing of del Toro and Lovecraft. The late horror author always provides a challenging, rewarding read, and “At the Mountains of Madness” is one of his standout works. Del Toro’s unique artistic vision falls perfectly in line with Lovecraft’s, whose work is marked by career-spanning themes of madness and the dangers of the unknown. It is a credit to Lovecraft’s talent that his work has largely defied big screen adaptations — the writing is, simply, very dense — and it is equally a credit to del Toro’s abilities that he’s cracked the story in a way that he feels confident about. Here’s a pretty perfect bit of casting. Russell Brand is going to star in “Hawkwood,” an action/comedy about real-life 14th century mercenary John Hawkwood. You know how Brand is frequently compared with or considered to be a real-life version of Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow character from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies? Well “Hawkwood” will give him a chance to try that role on for real. The title character is a swashbuckling rogue, which is sort of how I envision Brand in his day-to-day life. Maybe without the sword. Deadline reports that he’ll produce “Hawkwood” with Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark and Nicky Weinstock. No director has been announced, but Jared Stern will write the script. Stern recently did some work on the script for the “Arthur”
